Functioning
For a perfect operation on the Hidrolife salt electrolysis equipment, we indicate the operating principles of salt electrolysis
The salt necessary for the correct operation of the equipment must be added to the pool in a concentration of 4 - 6 Kg/m3 (5 - 6 lower than that of sea water).
The salt will be added to the water and chlorine (CI2) will be produced at the anode of the cell through the following reaction by electrolysis:
2NaCl+2H2O=2NaOH+H2+CI2 (salwater=soda+hydrogen+chlorine).
Chlorine is dissolved in water forming hypochlorous acid:
CI2+H2O=HOCI+HCI (chlorine+water=hypochlorous acid + hydrochloric acid)
Hypochlorous acid oxidizes the bacteria, as can also be seen, another product is generated, such as active oxygen (O2), to which an extra disinfectant power is added to the process, thus sterilizing the water:
2HOCI=2HCI+O2 (hypocorous acid=hydrochloric acid+oxygen)
Once the water is disinfected, the hydrochloric acid will react with the caustic soda in a neutralization reaction, giving salt and water again.
Hydrogen and oxygen react to form water:
NaOH+HCI=NaCl+H2O (soda+hydrochloric acid=salt+water)
All this operating process is a closed process in which there is no type of loss of any product, the addition of salt should be done only once when filling the pool.
They should only be carried out in small periodic replacements due to water losses during filter washing.
The chlorine generated will destroy the organic and pathogenic matter present in the water and will be transformed back into sodium chloride (common salt). All products break down, act and regenerate again. This explains why the salt concentration remains constant.
